Barb Sheldrick (Praise Kids Director)barb

Barb grew up in a musical family, has a musical family now, and loves nothing better than sharing the gift of music with others. Praising the Lord through singing and playing musical instruments and with others is her favorite blessing. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Adrian College and Master of Music Education from Wayne State University.  She has been a music teacher for the Anchor Bay School District for the past 27 years, teaching general music to kindergarten through 5th graders, as well as 5th grade band. Previous to that she taught both vocal and instrumental music for the Lake Orion Schools and for Kensington Academy in Bloomfield Hills. She enjoys performing on flute, teaching privately (flute, piano and trumpet), and leading student performances.

Barb and her family first came to St. Mary of the Hills when enrolling their daughter Shannon, now a high school senior, in pre-school here.  They enjoy the fellowship and the many opportunities for spiritual growth, service and worship that St. Mary’s provides. Barb is excited to be a part of the music staff at St. Mary’s as director of the Praise Kids Choir, to share her love of the Lord and of music with the children.

Bob Sheldrick (High School Handbell director)

BOBSHELDRICKWhen I moved to Rochester, Michigan the summer before my 8th grade year, my mom suggested that it might be nice to try ringing handbells as a way to get to meet new kids at our new church.  Since I had never heard of handbells before, I grudgingly gave it a try. And the rest was history.  After returning home from Adrian College with my bachelors degree, I settled back into the Rochester Community.   I’ve been directing handbell choirs for the last 35 years.  Some of my bell choirs have toured Ireland, England and Scotland and have also performed at Disneyworld, Busch Gardens, and the adult group performed at the City of Detroit 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony two years ago.  Aside from St. Mary’s, I also direct 2 bell choirs at First Congregational Church of Rochester.

My family and I have been parishioners for the last 13 years, and continue to enjoy the fellowship, spiritual guidance, and music of the parish.   My wife, Barb directs the Praise Kids, and my children, Shannon and Andrew are involved in various parish activities as well.

The Reveille Ringers of St. Mary’s gladly welcomes high school students who are interested in ringing in the bell choir.  Contact me directly if you are interested in more information.  My email is: bobsheld@ameritech.net.       Bob Sheldrick
